Our Philosophy

Associazione Giochi Antichi is a cultural project focusing on games, communities and their territory. The Association is interested in traditional games, passed down for centuries as part of a nation’s culture. 

These activities are usually carried out by adults who dedicated part of their lives to game, going against the widespread belief that only children are allowed to play.

Associazione Giochi Antichi aims at protecting traditional game communities, and their role in preserving oral history, environment and creativity.

Our work is based on the following key concepts:

• Players are the heart of the game.
• The territory is an essential part of game itself.
• Preserving games means continuing traditions.
• Playing a game has a fundamental role in preserving a territory’s tradition.
• Playing is more than just having fun.
• Game is free and can’t be sold, even in our capitalistic society.
• Playing is always a new experience and never repeats itself.
• Game is a form of social interaction.

In 2008 Associazione Giochi Antichi has drafted a Manifesto of traditional game communities.
