Played at the Pub - "the definitive work on British pub games. Buy it! Read it! Enjoy it!" — Pub History Society Arthur Taylor published his first study of pub games in 1976, updated it in 1992, and now, with Played at the Pub brings us his most extensive study so far, complete with stunning contemporary images taken at some of the loveliest locals in the land.

Arthur Taylor spent most of his working life as a producer/director at Granada TV, and much of his spare time going to the pub.

Arthur has been able to experience quite new events quite new: the world bar billiards championships in Jersey; the long end darts championships at Moston, north Manchester; the world tippit championship in mid-Wales; a shooting match under the auspices of Deviz & District Miniature Rifle League, and the first British Quoits championship for a generation or more, featuring teams from Wales, Scotland and England.

Played at the Pub is a unique work. In it Arthur has preserved for posterity details of numerous games that have now disappeared from pub bars and back yards and rigorously researched many others (still played) so that their true origins (and how to play them) are permanently recorded.

Played in Britain is the result of collaboration between English Heritage, Malavan Media and some of the country's leading experts on sporting heritage.
